Why DBYC Member Voice Matters—Especially for Those Who’ve Been Ignored or Feel Unheard

The DBYC Member Voice Advisory Council was created to ensure that every member’s concerns—especially those involving harassment, retaliation, or governance failures—are taken seriously. Too many members have submitted complaints only to be met with silence, optics, or procedural avoidance. This council exists to change that.

By combining expert analysis with broad member advocacy, we will review club processes, financials, and member concerns quarterly, and bring formal proposals to the board. Our goal is to restore due process, transparency, and accountability—so that no member is dismissed, retaliated against, or left without recourse.

If you’ve felt unheard, this is your opportunity to be part of a collective voice that cannot be ignored. With just 5% of members, we can compel the board to act. With 100 strong, we can reshape the culture of DBYC to one that protects, respects, and empowers its members.

DBYC Members are Equal Share Owners

Yacht club members are the true owners of the organization, much like stockholders in a corporation. As dues‑paying members, we collectively hold the ultimate authority over the club’s direction, governance, and leadership. Just as shareholders have the right to demand accountability from corporate boards, members have the right to call meetings, vote on leadership, amend bylaws, and insist on transparency and fiduciary responsibility. Our voices are not advisory—they are foundational. The board serves at the will of the membership, and its duty is to act in good faith, protect member interests, and uphold the integrity of the club.

Why an Advisory Council?

DBYC faces serious governance issues: ignored harassment, board resignations, low volunteerism, and lack of transparency. Members deserve better.   We, concerned DBYC members, are forming DBYC Member Voice, a strategic governance advisory council, to restore integrity, accountability, and good governance. This committee will be made up of members with expertise in business leadership, finance and compliance, HR, strategy, and legal. Its purpose is simple: to serve the members, ensure our bylaws and processes reflect best practices, and hold the board accountable to law, code, and fairness. California law gives us the right to demand change. If 5% of members (25 voting members), the board must respond. We aim for 100 members to show strength and unity.   We have heard members say, “we want our club back". Join us to restore transparency and fairness. Together, we can ensure members are heard and respected, and that our club thrives.
